About Us

Minnesota Punjabi Society (MPS) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization promoting education, good citizenship, community development, civic commitment and involvement, and preserving Punjabi Culture, language, sports and performing arts of the North-Indian state of Punjab among its community members and also mainstream  Americans in the Minnesota and beyond. MPS caters to this need both by directly organizing events that bring community members together from all over the Minnesota and by facilitating participation of its community members in mainstream activities. MPS has a holistic approach to community building and its comprehensive programming encompasses a variety of aspects of community life and its needs.

“Variety is the spice of life” and the Punjab and Punjabi`s have proved it true. The culture of Punjab is filled with art and craft, folksongs, dances that speak of creativity, rich traditional food (saag & makki di roti), land, agriculture, and above all hard work. This culture has captured recognition all over the world. The exuberance and vitality of Punjabi’s is vigorously displayed in their folk dances and songs. Folk songs borrow its metamorphous and imagery from the simple things in life and entire Punjabi culture is reflected in them.

 

The primary purpose of this society is to preserve and promote our culture and pass on the heritage to younger generation. The society promotes folk dance, music, art and language of Punjabi’s in an effort to bring the older and younger generations together at a common platform to personally experience and preserve the rich heritage of Punjab.
